Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen lead his team a 4-0 victory over Blackburn after scoring a 14-minute hat-trick.

Damien Duff added another goal late on, allowing the Blues to grab the points and close the gap with top of the table Arsenal to two points.

Crystal Palace were also celebrating a 3-0 win over fellow newcomer West Brom.

Andy Johnson's double was a vital victory that helped lift the south London team off the bottom of the table and levelling the two teams

But there was bad news for newly promoted Norwich who lost 2-3 to Everton. The team returned to the Premiership this season but have yet to win a match.

At Anfield Liverpool climbed to fifth place in the Premiership thanks to wonderful strikes from John Arne Riise and Luis Garcia in a 2-0 win against Charlton.

Goals from Nolberto Solano and Lee Hendrie sealed a 2-0 victory for Aston Villa over Fulham continuing the London team's winless away streak.

Tribute

Over a White Hart Lane Tottenham held a minute's silence and wore black armbands during its match against Bolton in honour of former manager Bill Nicholson, who died on Saturday aged 85.

The manager led his team to the First Division title and FA Cup in 1960-61, having taken over as manager in 1958.

But Henrik Pedersen scored the winner for Bolton taking the northern side to a 2-1 victory against home side Tottenham.
