  Wimbledon: Serena into the final
Updated 01 July 2004, 20.10
Serena Williams won a tough semi-final
Serena Williams survived a tough test in her Wimbledon semi-final against Amelie Mauresmo, winning 6-7 7-5 6-4.

The top seed and defending champion started well but Mauresmo took the first set on a tie-break.

The fourth seed was playing well in the second too, until a back injury began to hit her form and Serena took full advantage of it.

In the final she will play 13th seed Maria Sharapova, who beat fifth seed Lindsay Davenport 2-6 7-6 6-1.

Sharapova looked overpowered by Davenport in the early part of the game, whose serve helped her take the first set.

But a rain break seemed to help the Russian, who started to turn the match around when the players returned to the court.

She broke Davenport's serve to level the score and then went on to win the tie-break and dominate the final set to earn a place in Saturday's final.
