		Portugal parties after footie win

The people of Portugal partied until the small hours after their team made it to the Euro 2004 quarter-finals.

The host nation went through as winners of Group A after beating arch-rivals Spain for the first time in 23 years.

A 57th-minute goal from substitute Nuno Gomes secured a 1-0 victory for Portugal. Greece also progressed to the next stage despite losing to Russia.

Jubilant Portugal fans poured on to the streets of capital city Lisbon waving flags and honking their car horns.

Spain went crashing out of the competition, as Greece took the runner-up spot in Group A on goals scored.

Crunch game

Meanwhile, England are gearing up for their crunch Group B game against Croatia on Monday night, which will decide whether they will make the quarter-finals.
