Updated 13 June 2004, 18.52
England fans in party mood
Up to 30,000 England fans were expected at Lisbon's Estadio da Luz to watch Sven's men play their opening Euro 2004 game against defending champs France.

The big match was kicking off at 7.45pm on Sunday. Millions more fans were watching the game on television.

The evening before the game was largely trouble-free, although two England fans were arrested after a disturbance in Lisbon at which bottles were thrown.

The tournament opened with a ceremony attended by 52,000 fans on Saturday.
