  Wayne Rooney hits debut hat-trick
Updated 28 September 2004, 21.34
Wayne Rooney celebrates with Ryan Giggs
Wayne Rooney kicked off his career at Manchester United in the best possible way - with a hat-trick in a 6-2 win in the Champions League over Fenerbahce.

Ryan Giggs opened the scoring for the Reds in the seventh minute. Ruud Van Nistelrooy and David Bellion sealed the match with a fifth and sixth.

Fenerbahce fought back with goals from Ferreira Marcio Nobre and Tuncay Sanli, but it wasn't enough to stop United.

Liverpool fans won't be so happy, as their team lost 0-1 to Olympiakos.

Ieroklis Stoltidis headed in to send Liverpool to their first ever defeat to a Greek side.

Rooney played with great confidence, and there can be no worries about his fitness any more after he played a solid 90 minutes.

Towards the end, the match seemed more like a set of highlights, as United took advantage of Fenerbahce's crumbling confidence.

Nistelrooy and Bellion's goals were both added bonuses to Rooney's amazing Old Trafford debut.
