Roy Keane to make Ireland return
Updated 13 April 2004, 17.03
Roy Keane will play for Ireland again
Roy Keane has said he will play for the Republic of Ireland again, more than a year after quitting the national side.

The Manchester United skipper retired from international football after a huge row at the 2002 World Cup with then manager Mick McCarthy.

He's now been replaced by Brian Kerr, and Keane has changed his mind about playing for his country.

Keane met up with Kerr last week and told him he wants to try and help Ireland qualify for the 2006 World Cup.

That's the next major championship that Ireland will be able to play in, as they didn't qualify for this summer's Euro 2004 tournament in Portugal.

Keane's row with McCarthy came after the player said he thought the facilities Ireland were using at the World Cup weren't good enough.

The Republic's World Cup qualification campaign starts with a home game against Cyprus in September.
