Millionaire adventure man, Steve Fossett, has beaten the record for sailing around the world, by six days.

Fossett and his crew's 35,000km (21,760 miles) sail took 59 days, and saw them travel around treacherous seas in a 38 metre (125ft) catamaran, Cheyenne.

The old record was 64 days and eight hours, set by Bruno Peyron in 2002.

Fossett has 21 sailing records under his lifebelt, including the 2001 trans-Atlantic record which he did in the same boat, then called PlayStation.

Fossett is a big adventurer
The attempt to sail around the world the fastest is famously called the Jules Verne record.

It was named after Verne's famous 1870s novel, Around the World in Eighty Days.

Fossett's 12-man crew started and ended their epic voyage at Le Stiff lighthouse on Ouessant near Brittany, on 6 February.

The adventurer is no stranger to challenges and records.

He completed the first round the world manned balloon flight in 2002, and later in 2004, the adrenaline-seeker is planning to fly around the world non-stop without re-fuelling.
