Ramadan footie team banned by FA
Updated 01 April 2004, 17.59
Football
An under 12 footie team has been fined 75 and kicked out of a competition for missing matches during Ramadan.

Abraham Moss Warriors were unable to play some matches during the religious festival as half the team are Muslim.

This is because as part of Ramadan, Muslims don't eat during daylight hours and don't drink either.

The Warriors offered to play their matches later on in the day but the local football association said they weren't allowed to.

Players are furious they were forced to quit the Bury and Radcliffe Juniors League as they were near the top of their league and say they warned the FA about match times.

FA to rethink

"I don't think it's right," said one player, Akim.

"It's unfair," agreed team-mate Aaran.

The FA has now said it is looking at the situation and will contact the club by the end of the week.

The Warriors are hoping the FA will change its minds but if they don't, the case could end up in court.
