Euro 2004 ban on suspected yobs
Updated 04 February 2004, 16.00
Police dealing with trouble
The police are cracking down on suspected football hooligans in a bid to make sure this summer's Euro 2004 tournament is as safe as possible.

Over 2,000 suspected trouble-makers have been banned from travelling to the competition in Portugal.

Police will be stationed at UK ports and airports to make sure none of them slip through the net.

And undercover officers will be travelling to Portugal to help the local police keep the peace.

Around 50,000 England supporters are expected to travel to the event - more than from any other nation apart from the hosts.

Rampage

A police spokesman said they were working closely with the Portuguese authorities "to make it a trouble-free tournament".

The last time the European championships were held, hundreds of England fans went on the rampage in Belgium.
