British swimmer celebrates gold medal glory
Updated 24 July 2003, 07.37
James Gibson celebrates his gold medal win
British swimmer James Gibson has swum his way to success at the 2003 World Swimming Championships.

He got the first gold medal for Britain after winning the 50 metres breaststroke.

Gibson claimed victory after clocking up an impressive time of 27.56 seconds.

'Good start'

James shows off his medal
He's the first Brit to win a gold swimming medal since David Wilkie in 1975.

Gibson even beat world record holder Oleg Lisogor from the Ukraine, who came second.

"I feel fantastic," Gibson said. "I had a good start - they had to come out to beat me today but I made sure that in my head they wouldn't do it."

Another Brit, Ian Edmond, also did well by smashing his own record in the 200 metres breaststroke.
