Updated 20 July 2003, 14.48
Members of the victorious Surrey team
Surrey 117-1 (10.5 overs) beat Warwickshire 115 all out (18.1 overs) by nine wickets.

Surrey have become the first champions of cricket's funky new Twenty20 competition.

They scored a nine-wicket victory over fellow finalists Warwickshire.

Surrey's opening partnership of Ali Brown and Ian Ward scored a dazzling 100 from just 57 balls.

But the Lions' man of the match was James Ormond, with four wickets.

Surrey sealed their victory with more than nine overs remaining.

Twenty20 matches only have 20 overs.

It's supposed to make cricket faster and more fun to watch.

Cricket bosses hope it will attract loads of new fans to the game - and especially more kids and women.

Before the final, the 15,000 sell-out crowd at Nottinghamshire's Trent Bridge were treated to a concert by Atomic Kitten.

Face-painting and hair-colouring also helped keep the spectators amused.
