Wimbledon: Sharapova, 16, into fourth round
Updated 28 June 2003, 15.31
Maria Sharapova, 16, is in the last 16
A 16-year-old tennis player from Russia has made it into the fourth round of the women's singles at Wimbledon.

Big-hitting Maria Sharapova knocked out the number 11 seed Jelena Dokic in straight sets to make into to the last 16.

It took her just 77 minutes to beat her higher-ranker opponent, and will play fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in the next round.

Sharapova has been tipped as a future star, perhaps taking Anna Kournikova's place in newspapers and magazines.

She's also hit the headlines because of the grunting noise she sometimes makes when she hits the ball, thought to be louder than any other player.

Russian tennis is enjoying a real high at the moment, with 13 women from the country in the women's singles at the start of Wimbledon and five still left.
