BMX champ can't keep half-pipe in garden
Updated 08 May 2003, 15.42

The UK's World BMX champion has been told to take down a practice half-pipe which he built in his front garden.

Simon Tabron is the British, European and World BMX champion.

To stay at the top of his game, 29-year-old Simon built a four-metre-high half-pipe in his front garden to practice on.

He lives in a quiet area of Newquay in Cornwall and other people in his street aren't happy.

Need permission

Simon's neighbour Mrs Olive Irons says: "It is in the front garden in full view of everyone and it does make noise."

The local council says Simon should have asked permission to build such a big ramp in his garden.

And now, they've told him he has to take it down.

'Missing out'

Simon is not happy about the council's decision, he told the BBC: "All the prize money I made last summer... built the ramp.

"All my main rivals in America have extensive training facilities on their doorstep and I was missing out."

Simon is planning to appeal the council's decision.
