Trevor Brooking in charge at West Ham
Updated 24 April 2003, 11.48

West Ham United legend Trevor Brooking has been asked to take charge of his old club as a temporary stand in for manager Glenn Roeder.

Glenn collapsed hours after West Ham won a crucial three points against Middlesbrough on Monday, and is recovering in hospital.

So the people running the club have asked BBC pundit Brooking to take charge of the team for the final three games of the season.

West Ham are desperately fighting against relegation from the Premiership, and probably need at least two wins from those three games.

Fact File

FA Cup winner with West Ham in 1975 and 1980
47 caps for England
Awarded CBE for services to football
Named to Hammers board of directors
All the coaching staff at the club will stay the same, although Brooking will be picking the team for the matches.

He told the Hammers official website: "This seems to be the most sensible solution to preserve the continuity that Glenn and his back-room team have put into place.

"We aim to keep the momentum going that everyone has achieved over the last eight matches when 15 points have been gained."
