West Ham boss had 'minor stroke'
Updated 23 April 2003, 17.22
Hammers boss Glenn Roeder
The West Ham players have promised to fight even harder to beat relegation now that their boss, Glenn Roeder, is in hospital.

Roeder collapsed after the Hammers won 1-0 against Middlesbrough on Monday.

It's thought he had a minor stroke.

Pressure

He's said to be "stable" in hospital and is still having tests done.

Roeder has been under pressure from Hammers fans in recent weeks as his side try and get out of the relegation zone in the Premiership.

They're just three points behind Leeds United in the league, although the Elland Road side have played one game fewer.

Roeder isn't the first football manager to have health problems.

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier had to have a heart operation after collapsing during a game in October 2001, as did Graeme Souness when in charge at Liverpool after an FA Cup semi final in 1991.
