Fair play nets Man City Uefa Cup place
Updated 02 June 2003, 21.37
Kevin Keegan will lead Man City into Europe
Manchester City have won a place in Europe - thanks to the good behaviour of the team and their fans.

Kevin Keegan's men have qualified to take part in the Uefa Cup because of their performance in the Premiership Fair Play league.

Keegan will lead the club's first European campaign for 24 years after his team finished fifth in the Fair Play table.

Shaun Goater and Robbie Fowler of Manchester City

The four sides above them - Man Utd, Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool - already had places in Europe, so City were next in line.

The Fair Play league looks at whether the players' respect each other and the referee's decisions, as well as the behaviour of the crowd and team officials.

City finished ninth in the Premiership.

The league had the best disciplinary record in Europe, the reward for which was City's cup place.

The draw for the Uefa Cup qualifying round will take place on 20 June.
