Ryan Giggs to win the award voted for by viewers of a Welsh children's programme.
Surprising result
The programme-makers were very surprised by the result as Welsh fans are not known
for their support of the English national side.
A spokesman for programme said: "Beckham is a big name among
football fans all over the country, not just in England. He is a fashion icon
and is popular with girls as well as boys.

"This just shows that children are open-minded, it doesn't mean they support
England."
In a message recorded for the programme Beckham said: "I would just like to say
thank you to everyone in Wales for voting me the sport personality of the year,
and I'm sure my two sons will love this award".
