Race bosses want to slow down Schumacher
Updated 07 October 2002, 11.56
Ferrari
Formula 1 bosses have said they'll look at new rules to make it harder for Michael Schumacher to keep winning.

They're worried that people will stop watching if the Ferrari team - and especially Schumacher - continue to dominate.

Ferrari have won 14 of the 16 races so far this season, and Schumacher became world champion quicker than any other driver in F1 history.

The ideas being considered include:

  • making his car heavier

  • taking away some of the computer aids for drivers

  • only allowing each car two engines a season

  • splitting qualifying into four half-hour sessions over Friday and Saturday

  • stopping teams improving their cars so much during the season

But introducing new rules might be hard.

Every team has to agree to a change, and it's not likely that Ferrari will say yes - if it stops them winning so much!
