Serena beats sister Venus in US Open final
Updated 08 September 2002, 12.10
Serena holds up the trophy after winning the US Open
There was no sisterly love on court in the women's singles final of the US Open as Serena Williams beat big sister Venus in straight sets 6-4 6-3.

It was an awesome display of power from the world's number one who also took advantage of her sister's poor serving and unforced errors.

Venus served 10 double faults in the match while Serena served just one.

Both winners

Serena serves during the match
It's the third time Serena and Venus have played each other in a major final and after the match Serena admitted that she likes playing Venus.

"If anything I prefer to play Venus because that means that we have reached our maximum potential and that we will both go home winners" she said.

Hat trick

It is Serena's third Grand Slam title in a row, she won the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year.

And now her sights must be firmly set on the Australian Open in January.

It's the only Grand Slam event she has never won.

Old rivals

Pete Sampras celebrates beating Sjeng Schalken in the semi-finals
In the men's final of the US Open to be played on Sunday, Pete Sampras takes on Andre Agassi.

Agassi beat defending champion Lleyton Hewitt 6-4 7-6 6-7 6-2 in the semi-finals while Sampras overpowered Dutchman Schalken to win in straight sets 7-6 7-6 6-2.

Sampras and Agassi are old rivals on the tennis circuit. "I can definitely say that there's been nothing like it in my career that compares to playing against Pete" Agassi said.
