Updated 28 July 2002, 16.44
Lance Armstrong
US rider Lance Armstrong has won the toughest race in cycling - the Tour de France - for a fourth year in a row.

He finished over seven minutes ahead of Spain's Joseba Beloki in second, with Raimondas Rumsas a further minute back in third.

Robbie McEwen of Australia won the final stage in Paris to take the green jersey for the most consistent rider.

All of Armstrong's wins have come in the same way.

He sits back on the early flat stages and then when the race hits the mountains he takes over, constantly pushing put on his own to build a lead big enough for the rest of the race.

Armstrong's success is even more remarkable because he was only given a 40% chance of survival after doctor's spotted he had cancer in 1996.

But he recovered thanks to the treatment, and is now only one win behind the all-time record for Tour de France triumphs, held jointly by four other cyclists.
