  Dyer makes England squad
Updated 21 May 2002, 17.34
It was looking doubtful whether Dyer would make the team
Kieron Dyer has been named by coach Sven-Goran Eriksson in England's 23-man World Cup squad.

It was looking doubtful whether the Newcastle midfielder would make the team, after he was injured during an illegal tackle just weeks before the tournament.

Sven-Goran Eriksson will be relieved his midfield section is recovering from injury

The fact that Dyer is winning his fitness battle will be good news for Eriksson, who already has concerns in midfield.

Racing to recover

Captain David Beckham and Nicky Butt, who play in that position, are both racing to recover from injuries in time for the first matches.

West Ham midfielder Trevor Sinclair, who was on standby with the squad in South Korea, is expected to fly back to England on Wednesday, but can be recalled if neccessary.
