  England squad arrives in Dubai
Updated 14 May 2002, 11.11

England's World Cup squad have arrived in Dubai before heading off to the Far East.

The squad are without Steven Gerrard and Kieron Dyer.

It's looking doubtful Gerrard will be fit in time for the World Cup, as it's likely he'll need an operation on a groin injury.

However, Dyer has been given till the end of the week to prove his fitness following a knee injury.

Lap of luxury

During their five-night stay, the young lions will be living in the lap of luxury on the shores of the sun-kissed Arabian Gulf at the five-star Jumeirah Beach Club.

The security-fenced resort provides a luxurious private hide-away, set in large gardens and just yards away from the sea.

The chalet-style suites each have a spa-sized whirlpool bath, satelite TV and video, CD music system and a private terrace which overlooks the Burj Alarab hotel seen in the picture above.

The Gulf is very hot, with temperatures soaring to 40C. This will help the players get used to the heat they'll experience in Japan.
