Updated 12 April 2002, 11.19
Psychic Uri Geller makes his TV appeal
A top psychic tried to get the nation to heal David Beckham's broken foot live on TV.

Uri Geller, famous for bending spoons with the 'power of his mind', asked everyone watching to place their hand on a picture of David Beckham's foot on the TV screen.

He then asked them to concentrate on mending the England star's foot, in the hope that all the positive mental energy will speed up his recovery.

'Not a miracle worker'

Mr Geller told GMTV viewers: "I want people to touch their TV screens. Take it seriously, if just for a few seconds, and send him some healing energy."

Beckham's injury could shatter his hopes of playing for England in the World Cup this year, as his injury needs at least six weeks rest.

Uri Geller said he wasn't a "miracle worker", but if millions of people focused their minds on David's foot they could produce a powerful healing force.
