Thousands of visitors to the NEC at the weekend watched 80 world class riders showcase top tricks and performances at Bike Show 2002.

World class riders

Top riders in attendance included X Games vert champion Jamie Brestwick, British number one trials champion Martin Ashton and World Series downhill winner Greg Minnaar.

Plenty of young riders were also taking to the ramps, including up and coming rider Ben Munton, 14.

Ben told Newsround Online how he got into BMX street: "I started doing it with a few mates and have been doing tricks and stuff for a few years now."

Talented young stars

Also at the show were riders like Zach Shaw, who's always on the look out for talented new BMX stars to promote.

Fact File
Bike terms
Flatland: tricks on the flat
Vert/ Street: jumps using a half pipe
Trials: obstacle course against the clock
BSX (Bike Super Cross): race on a dirt track with jumps
Downhill: usually out in the open, race against the clock
His advice for those who practise at skate parks is: "Just keep riding. It doesn't matter if you can do tricks or not, if you love it, keep going with it."

Loads of dirt

The NEC arena was divided up into specialist areas, including street, flatland, vert, BSX and trials.

Over 1.5 tonnes of dirt was brought into the arena to build the tracks, and it took 100 trucks and a whole day to move it in.
