Famous skaters danced on the ice in time to the music, before the rink was covered in sand and 2,500 athletes began to relax after 17 days of intense competition.

Before the ceremony there was time for one final upset, with Canada defeating the hosts 5-2 in the final of the men's ice hockey.

The next Winter Olympics will be held in Torino, Italy in 2006.
