New crew arrive at space station
Updated 16 October 2004, 13.26

Three new crew members have reached the International Space Station after a Russian spacecraft docked successfully.

Salizhan Sharipov and Yuri Shargin and US astronaut Leroy Chiao are all now on board the ISS, with Chiao and Sharipov staying on board for six months.

Shargin will return to earth in 10 days time with the two astronauts living on the ISS at the moment.

Chiao and Sharipov will be doing experiments on possible medicines are planning to make two space walks.

It's the fourth time a Soyuz craft has taken people to the ISS since the US space shuttle programme was stopped.

The US stopped using shuttles after the Columbia shuttle disaster in February 2003.

It's thought US missions to the ISS may start again next year.
