  Handheld consoles set for battle
Updated 12 May 2004, 16.51
The PSP is made by Sony
Gaming on the move is set to change after two new handheld consoles were unveiled in Los Angeles.

The Nintendo Dual Screen (DS) and the PlayStation Portable (PSP) were both shown for the first time at mega gaming exhibition E3 in the US.

Until now Nintendo's GameBoy Advance has been the big seller, but Sony hope they'll be able to challenge that.

Both the DS and PSP will be in UK shops early in 2005 but Japanese gamers will get them before the end of this year.

No-one knows how much either of them will cost yet, but they are going to be full of the latest technology.

The DS will have two screens and one of them will be touch sensitive and as many as 16 players can play against each other at once, without needing a wire to connect them.

The PSP is more of a multi-media machine, with Sony hoping people will use it to watch video and listen to music on, as well as play games.
