  Spaceship halfway to $10m prize
Updated 29 September 2004, 18.13
SpaceShipOne takes off
A spaceship is halfway to winning a massive $10m (5.5m) prize after successfully blasting into space and returning to earth safely.

SpaceShipOne can claim the cash if it becomes the first private craft to enter and return from space twice.

It became the first manned craft to go above 100km in June, and following Wednesday's successful mission must repeat the feat within two weeks.

It's one of a number of craft that are trying and win the money.

Each of the spacecraft have to be built without any government help to win.

The cash bounty, called the X-Prize, was created to try and get private companies to invest money in space travel.

On Monday it was announced that Sir Richard Branson's company Virgin intends to use the SpaceShipOne technology to offer tickets into space to ordinary people.

Special guest

Terence, the teddy bear who is travelling on board
A teddy bear from Cumbria called Terence sat in on Wednesday's space flight on a mission to raise money for charity.

Terence has also been to Iraq as well and hopes to raise lots of money for North Air Ambulance Appeal.
