  Scientists create glow-in-the-dark fish!
Updated 28 June 2003, 10.37
Glow-in-the-dark fish
Would you like to own pet fish that glow in the dark?

Soon you might able to, after a company in Taiwan used science to create a new kind of fish that does just that.

At the moment the new type of fish doesn't even have a proper name, with the Taikong Corporation calling it TK-1 for the moment.

They did it by taking the DNA from a jellyfish that makes it glow and putting it into a zebra fish to make it shine a yellow-green colour.

The company's scientists have also made sure that the fish can't have baby fish or breed with other normal fish.

Fish fans aren't happy

They've done so they can make loads of money from people who have fish tanks.

But it's got lots of fish fans worried about what might happen next.

They worry that other genetically modified fish might be on their way, and they could take over Britain's waters from the ones that naturally live here at the moment.
