  Chocolate-for-sport scheme attacked
Updated 29 April 2003, 09.45
Cadbury's scheme isn't popular
Chocolate makers Cadbury's are under fire after launching a scheme where kids can swap vouchers on wrappers for sports equipment.

Health experts are really annoyed at the government, who back the scheme, because they say that it encourages children to eat far too much chocolate.

The Food Commission says it's ridiculous that a company making sweets is trying to encourage children do more exercise - by eating more sweets!

And to get your hands on the sports equipment you need to eat loads of chocolate bars.

To get a basketball worth £10 you'd need to buy 170 chocolate bars, costing £71!

People against the scheme also say that you'd need to do tons of exercise to burn off all the calories you'd be scoffing to earn your free equipment.

But Cadbury's say that kids won't eat any extra chocolate, they'll just use the vouchers from the bars they do eat.

The chocolate makers added that they have £9m of sports equipment to give away in return for the wrappers.
