New robot face looks just like a person
Updated 17 February 2003, 14.09
The K-bot looks just like a person
An American scientist has invented a robot face that looks exactly like a human one.

Called the K-bot, the face has 24 special motors under its rubber skin that mean it can move and look just like a human face.

Scientist David Hanson, who used to work for Disney, has designed the face so it can copy the expression of a real person.

He reckons that in the future when we have to communicate with machines we will be able to do it by speaking to a robot head like the K-bot.

And unlike most pieces of top technology the face was really cheap to build, setting Hanson back around £250.

The technology used in K-bot may even be used to create versions of other body parts, perhaps leading to a full size robot that looks just like a person.
