  Chocolate could cure coughs
Updated 05 December 2002, 12.06
Who'd have thought it could be good for you!
Chocolate could be the answer you've been looking for that annoying cough.

Scientists found that a chemical in chocolate called theobromine stopped coughs better than some other drugs.

They tested a cough remedy called codeine and a pretend drug, but it was chocolate that came out as the winner.

Mmm yum, and good for you too!
Although it's not all good news, experts say patients should not take the news as a permission to eat lots of chocolate bars if they are sick!

And they also say that if the cure is used it will be white and tasteless rather than chocolate-flavoured.

Thought there might be a catch somewhere!
