PlayStation 'will win' the console wars
Updated 30 October 2002, 16.26
PlayStation 2
Playstation 2 is in place to win the console wars, selling loads more than the Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox.

A top market research company has worked out how many consoles will be sold by the end of 2006 - and PlayStation is going to win by miles.

They reckon that an amazing 120 million of Sony's games machines will be in people's houses in four years time, more than double the amount of Gamecubes expected to be sold.

Nintendo have been given a huge fine
Gaming is now a massive business, making more money in America over the last two years than the amount made from selling cinema tickets.

The marketing company, In-Stat/MDR, also think online gaming is going to take off in a big way, boosted by the arrival of the next generation of consoles - expected in 2005.

The survey topped a really bad day for Nintendo, who were fined an incredible 100m by the European Commission for breaking business rules between 1991 and 1998.

In Britain games were much cheaper than in the rest of Europe, but Nintendo stopped British games being sold anywhere else, keeping the prices high and breaking the rules.
