Kids know more about the net than books
Updated 03 October 2002, 09.37
Kids know more about the internet than books
You lot know more about homepages than book pages according to a new survey.

It revealed that while 60% of you knew a homepage was the first page of a website, only 9% knew a preface did the same thing in a book.

Fact File
Kids on the web
79% of kids surf the net often
69% said the web improved their homework
74% said they'd used it for help with a school project
69% said it made homework easier
The web is the first place 25% of you go for help with their homework
39% help their parents with the net
73% of the kids said they spend up to five hours a week online
And while 38% of you knew a hardback was a type of book, 57% knew that a hard drive was part of a computer.

But all that computer knowledge is being put to good use, because around two thirds of you use the internet for homework, and say it makes your work easier and quicker to do - and improves your grades.

Kids teaching teachers!

The survey of 1,000 kids aged between seven and 16 was carried out for the Microsoft website MSN, and they also told how kids are helping adults catch up with computers and the net.

More than half of you have helped an adult with the internet, and 20% have even helped their teachers find their way round the World Wide Web.
