It is also hoped the satellite will help warn people about floods and cyclones much earlier than possible at the moment, sending data back to earth twice as often as current satellites.
Arianne launches, better late than never
It's the first of three weather watchers to be launched into orbit in the next seven years, costing a whopping 1.3bn euros (£831m).
As well as keeping an eye on the weather, the MSG-1 will also check out what's happening to the planet over time, giving us much more info on global warming.
The launch of the satelllite was supposed to have happened earlier in the week, but there was a problem with the rocket carrying into orbit.
