Astronomers were worried that the giant rock, called 2002 NT7, was on course to hit our planet in 2019.

But now the latest information shows it will just fly by and not hit Earth at all.

Fact File
Facts about asteroids
Made from rock or metal
Scattered throughout solar system
Can be over 900 kms in diameter!
Mostly found near Mars and Jupiter
Also known as minor planets

It's a relief because the asteroid is 1.4 miles wide and would've hit us at an impact of 28km a second.

It was an asteroid like this one which wiped out the dinosaurs millions of years ago.

However, it's not all good news. There's a small chance the asteroid could come back our way on February 1 2060.

But experts reckon this is unlikely too.
