Lance N'Sync has heart op for space trip
Updated 17 May 2002, 14.29
N'Sync perform on stage
Lance Bass from N'Sync has had a small heart operation to boost his chances of going into space.

It's the singer's dream to blast into orbit and he's going through tests with Russian space bosses to see if he can get a seat on a rocket to the International Space Station.

But Lance, 23, had an irregular heartbeat, and he had to have a minor op to correct it, before he could go any further.

A spokeswoman insisted his heart condition was "not even remotely life-threatening".

Lance, who's recently finished a tour with N'Sync, is now having more tests at Russia's Star City cosmonaut space centre.

And even if he gets through, the trip won't come cheap. The short space flight costs a whopping 20m.

He'll have to go through an intensive six-month training course, which mean N'Sync will be down to four for a while.

But Lance is determined to succeed. His spokeswoman said it was his life-long dream to go into orbit, and that he even went to 'space camp' as a kid.
