Uranus as seen through the Subaru Telescope

A giant telescope in Hawaii has produced a stunning picture of the planet Uranus.

The Subaru Telescope shows two of its moons and its amazing dust ring.

Everything you need to know about space

The image is made up of infrared light and the gas methane - which Uranus' atmosphere is mostly made of - shows up blue.

What's in it?

Fact File
Uranus info
Discovered in 1781 by William Herschel
Was first thought to be a comet
Takes about 84 years to revolve around the sun
More than 10 satellites and 10 rings have been found around it so far

Uranus is a gas-giant world that's hard to study from Earth even with the largest telescopes.

But the pictures aren't just for fun. They're helping scientists find out all about the planet's atmosphere.

Uranus has only been visited once by a spaceprobe in 1986 but there are no plans to return to the world yet.
