Hundreds of people stayed up till midnight to get their hands on the latest games console, Microsoft's Xbox.

But the Xbox doesn't come cheap, with the console itself costing 299 and games a whopping 45 each.

Microsoft say that it's more expensive because it's much more powerful than its rivals, the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo GameCube - launched on 3 May.

Thirteen-year-old Daniel had been queuing with his mum and sister for three hours at the Virgin Megastore in London.

"It's the most powerful console out, with the best graphics and I can't wait to play it," he said.

His 11-year-old sister Jordanna thrashed TV star Jonathan Ross at a game and won a free Xbox.

She said: "I don't get a chance to play the games console at home because my brother won't let me!"

The first person to buy an Xbox at the Virgin store was 22-year-old Scott Rawlins, who'd got in the queue by accident when he realised he was at the front.

And not only did he get to home with the country's first Xbox, he also got to borrow Sir Richard Branson's limo for the journey.
