Txt message blitz causes health problems
Updated 26 February 2002, 15.49
Text messaging is becoming a health risk
The number of text messages flying around the country has risen again, but we're sending so many of the little things that it's starting to damage our hands.

We sent 1.4bn text messages in January, so many that some sent to wish people a Happy New Year weren't arriving until days later, because the network was so busy.

Texting is a health risk

But messages not getting through in time are the least of our worries, because now experts have worked out that the amount of time we spend texting is dangerous.

When you repeat the same movements over and over again you risk something called repetitive strain injury, where you hurt your muscles and tendons.

Now people who text all the time are at risk from text message injury, or TMI, according to Virgin mobile.

They have got together with health experts to produce a guide to safer texting, suggesting a number of 'textercises', such as shoulder shrugs, finger spreads and neck muscle stretches to help texters stay healthy.
