The future: Toys which love you
Updated 19 January 2002, 10.59
Sony's Aibo dog. Robots are getting cleverer all the time
The future is just around the corner and it's filled with video jewellery and toys which ask if you're OK!

These are just some of the predictions from 'futurologist' Ian Pearson.

He reckons that by 2010 the first robot will have passed its GCSE exams.

Even though so far robots only have very basic language skills, a school swot-bot is a real possibility.

Intelligent toys

Your toys could talk to you
Ian says "By 2006 it will be possible to ask a robot general questions which it hasn't been told before and get a response."

A few years later it would be ready to study for a degree!

And while you sit 'air typing' and using your 'air mouse' at your PC you could be doing it wearing smart clothes which collect solar power.

Add some video jewellery and glasses which have special displays on them and you're years ahead of your time!

And one day toys could be like the teddy in the movie AI - they'll spot if you're upset and ask what's wrong.

Is that way too scary? Or is it just incredible? Tell us by clicking on the link on the right
