  Gaming for girls needs makeover
Updated 14 December 2001, 12.55
SSX Tricky
More girls than ever are getting into gaming but many complain most games are for boys.

That's according to game designer Bernadette LaCarte who says even the ones aimed specially at girls are usually packaged in pink and purple and are about fashion or dating.

So she's designed a new snowboarding game which could be on many girls' Christmas lists.

'Girl gamers ignored'

Bernadette is hoping SSX Tricky will appeal to girls who are fed up with being ignored or having to put up with 'pink' games.

She says girls need more than just shopping games and there should be more titles which appeal to everyone.

And she says everyone is looking for the same qualities in their games:

"Interesting games, rich characters and storylines, immersive experiences, giant landscapes."
