Mark Shuttleworth is paying Russia an estimated £14m to be allowed to rocket into space as part of a Soyuz mission in April 2002.
Shuttleworth will be part of a 10-day Russian mission that will take him to the International Space Station and back.
First space tourist
Shuttleworth, 27, can afford to pay for his space ticket after selling an internet company he owned for £350m in 2000.
