  Xbox launch date revealed
Updated 17 October 2001, 10.01
Xbox launch
Microsoft's long-awaited new generation games console, the Xbox, will go on sale in the UK from 14 March 2002.

The box was unveiled for Europe this week at a showbiz-style ceremony in France, complete with music from DJ Carl Cox.

Powerful

The console, costing 299, promises to give game-lovers the most powerful gaming experiences ever.

Xbox won't be launched until February in Japan

But Sony Playstation 2 and Nintendo's Gamecube will be competing with the Xbox.

The price of Playstation 2 has already been slashed to 199.

Online

The Xbox has a built-in hard drive and will have broad-band access to the internet and a DVD player.

Games promised for Xbox include Shrek, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x and Airforce Delta Storm.

And it promises amazing graphics that will blur the line between the virtual and real.
