  Madonna's gone Microsoft
Updated 13 October 2001, 16.48
Madonna
Pop queen Madonna's teamed up with Microsoft to launch their new computer operating system software, Windows XP.

Maddy's hit 'Ray of Light' will be the official theme tune for the new software.

Old-timers

The deal's worth millions of pounds and will involve TV as well as magazine adverts featuring the song.

Mick Jagger of Rolling Stones

It's not the first time Microsoft have launched new products using pop songs.

In 1981 they did a deal with old-timers the Rolling Stones for their song 'Start Me Up' to introduce people to the 'start button' in their Windows software.

Delayed

The 25 October launch of Windows XP was almost postponed because of the 11 September terrorist attacks.

But it's going ahead with a big party and performances from three more pop acts. Organisers are keeping quiet about Maddy's possible appearance.
