1/10 Here are a few heroes from British history, starting with William Shakespeare wrote some of the best poetry and plays ever
2/10 Winston Churchill, possibly Britain's greatest Prime Minister. He led Britain to victory in World War Two
3/10 Queen Boadicea, who led the British in a rebellion against the Roman empire in 60 AD
4/10 Captain Scott, who led a failed attempt to reach the South Pole. Tragically, he and all his men died there in 1912
5/10 Charles Darwin, whose theory of evolution changed the world in 1859 when he published Origin of Species
6/10 Emmilene Pankhurst, who, with her Suffragettes, helped women get the right to vote in the early 20th century
7/10 Isaac Newton discovered many of the basic rules of physics which we use today, including the idea of gravity
8/10 Jane Austen wrote some of the best novels of the 19th century, and was important in getting women recognised as good authors
9/10 Walter Raleigh was an explorer in the 16th and 17th centuries. He brought the potato to England. No Raleigh, no chips!
10/10 Florence Nightingale, who helped improve the standard of hospitals in Britain
