Blue Peter's water appeal
1/11 Presenter Matt went to East Africa to launch the 2002 Blue Peter WaterWorks appeal to get clean water in Uganda and Tanzania
2/11 He spoke to children there about their daily struggle to find water, which isn't even clean or safe to drink
3/11 Many children have to walk for miles each day just so they can take some water to school
4/11 Even children as young as two have to carry their own water
5/11 The water in many East African villages is not even clean - it's yellow, murky and can spread diseases
6/11 Matt spoke to lots of children who'd been made really ill by the dirty water
7/11 The women and children have to dig deep holes to find water underground
8/11 Matt tried to climb down one of the holes, and found it really hard. And there's often snakes down there!
