Single review: Nicola Roberts- Beat Of My Drum

Nicola Roberts

Release date

It's out now.

The style

Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts has launched her solo career with a banging party track.

Beat Of My Drum features dancehall rhythms from American producer Diplo and really strong lyrics from Nicola.

She sing-shouts the chorus like a cheerleader: "L-O-V-E, dance to the beat of my drum!"

Nicola may have been a quieter member of Girls Aloud but she's got everyone's attention now!

Will you still be humming it next week?

Definitely! And you'll be dancing too, to the beat of her drum!

Will it make the charts?

Yes! We think Nicola is the dark horse of Girls Aloud and this solo project is giving her the chance to shine.

Your Comments

"I think it's very catchy, I really like it."

Tallulah, 11, Preston, England

"I love this song but the video is boring."

Abigail, 9, Birmingham, England

"Me and my friends ADORE this song. We copied her movements for the L-O-V-E bit and I think we've got the WHOLE school moving! Well done Nicola!"

Selena, 14, London, England

"Fantastic! I really enjoyed it."

Thalia, 7, Cheshire, England

"I think it is bad! I'm sorry but I don't like it, it gets stuck in my head and really annoys me!"

Taylor, 12, Reading, England

"It is a terrible song, I can't believe it! It's bad!"

Abbie, 11, Reading, England

"This is a great single, though I admit the pre-order only track Porcelain Heart is better, but this still is an amazing track to dance to. It deserves to get great sales and a great chart position. I have pre-ordered her album after hearing only two songs."

Josh, 13, Manchester, England

"It's very catchy and laid back, amazing!"

Charlie, 13, Cambridgeshire, England

"I think it's a good beat and she has a great tone of voice."

Gabriel, 13, Cumbria, England

"It is such a cool song, I love it!"

Olivia, 10, Essex, England

"I think she did a wonderful job. I give her 10 out of 10!"

Alexandra, 11, England

"It's a good song with a catchy beat and it's fun to dance to!"

Shreya, 12, Surrey, England

"I did not like her outfit but I thought the song was good. Better than Cheryl Cole."

Heidi, 13, London, England

"It's OK, but it wouldn't be the first song I would choose to listen to. Good for her for releasing a song but it's not my cup of tea."

Penelope, 12, Essex, England

"I love this song! It's really catchy and has been in my head all week, and I still think it's great."

Jodie, 13, Portsmouth, England

"Did you see her dress?!!! Luv the song, outfits not so sure!"

Sarah, 10, London, England

"I love it!"

Bekah, 11, London, England

"I love her new song, it's so funky!"

Bethany, 10, UK

"It is the worst song I have ever heard!"

Fify, 11, London, England

"Along with Party Rock Anthem, this is THE dance track so far of the year! Nicola was always my favourite one in Girls Aloud!"

Emma, 11, South Lanarkshire, Scotland

"I prefer Beat Of My Drum to Fight For This Love because it is more up-beat and I like Nicola Roberts as a person."

Carly, 11, Bath, England

"I love this song! At school me and my mates dance around to it!"

Ellie, 11, Poole, England

"I think the song is not that good to be honest. I think I preferred her when she was in Girls Aloud. But well done Nicola for going solo!"

Hannah, 11, Wales

"It's extremely irritating. No rhythm whatsoever. Her voice is also very annoying and the lyrics obviously have no story behind them. Paramore are one of the few bands out there who are actually worth listening to - unlike this."

Georgie, 11, England

"It's alright. It's certainly better than Rebecca Black's song Friday, but they both stick in your head and won't go away!"

Eilidh, 12, Scotland

"I think it is not very good, no rhythm at all! I even like The Saturdays' new song better. Other people might like it and that is okay, but I do not like it that much so I give it 2/5. Sorry, Nicola."

Chloe, 12, London, England

"It's very good!"

Mia, 5, Lincolnshire, England

"I think it's quite different considering she is one of Girls Aloud!"

Lucy Kate, 11, Essex, England

"Its OK, but it's not the best song in the world!"

Hannah, 13, England

"Wow! I just love this single. It's very catchy and im sure it will get into the top 10."

Heidi, 14, Leicestershire, England

"It sounds horrible and annoying the first time you listen to it, but like Rebecca Black's 'Friday', once you hear it a few times, it becomes better. 5/10!"

Chiara, 12, Scotland

"I love this song, it's so catchy. It's got a great beat to! I Love Nicola!"

Leonna, 12, Ireland

"Love Beat Of My Drum!! Better than Cheryl's hits! I predict this will be a chart hit!!!"

Lissy, 12, Nottinghamshire, England

"I like this song. SOO CATCHY! Nicola is awesome. She was so quiet in Girls Aloud..."

Asma, 11, Birmingham, England

"I think her single is great, it has very catchy lyrics!"

Kitursa, 10, Kent, England

"It's ok but it's not my type of music and I wouldn't buy the single."

Lauren, 10, Newcastle, England

"Yes I've heard it and sorry, but I'm not a fan. But I think if she keeps on recording she'll be really good! I do like her, and think she'll do really well as a solo artist."

Anna, 11, Sunderland, England

"I wonder if Nicola will get back with Girls Aloud because I have been hearing a lot of rumours. But even if she doesn't go back we will still love her music!"

Omazie, 13, London, England

"Hiya Nicola you are a beautiful singer!"

Saira, 12, Luton, England

"I think it is rubbish, it is really cheesy. John and Edward sing better and are more entertaining."

Emily, 11, Staffordshire, England

"Worst song ever!"

Jaya, 12, London, England

"I just heard this song and have fallen in love with it! Who knew Nicola had such a good voice?! This is my ultimate summer tune!"

Abby, 11, Kent, England

"I love this song! It brings out her voice a bit more than when she was with Girls Aloud. I have always loved Girls Aloud but I also love how they have gone solo. But I cant wait till they get back together in 2012!"

Amani, 12, Liverpool, England

"I like the song! Not a personal favourite of mine, but I like it."

Kaycee, 8, Limerick, Ireland

"It's a good song!"

Rachel, 12, Lanarkshie, Scotland

"I'm her number one fan. I really like her as a soloist and I liked her in Girls Aloud too."

Alex, 11, Warrington, England

"I wasn't too sure if I liked this track but it definitely grew on me!

Katie, 13, Sunderland, England

"Funky and cool!"

Nairat, 11, London, England

"I really dislike this song. Nicola Roberts was good in Girls Aloud, but not really very good on her own!!"

Moggy, 14, Preston, England

"I liked her in Girls Aloud but as a solo artist it is a definite NO. But you have to cut her some slack she is trying, and hard too. My rating is 5/10."

Maegan, 10, Co. Cork, Ireland

"It's great but I prefer Fight For This Love by Cheryl Cole. Beat Of My Drum is very catchy though and I think my friends will be singing it at school."

Jessica, 10, Birmingham, England
