Doctor Who: Matt Smith to stay for new season

Dr Who: Matt Smith and Daleks

Time for time travelling news! Matt Smith has signed up to do 14 more episodes as Doctor Who.

Matt, 28, has already finished six episodes for this autumn, to continue the series that broke off on Saturday.

Show boss Steven Moffat has persuaded the 11th Doctor to film 14 more adventures to kick off in 2012.

It's not clear when they'll end and they could finish in 2013 and could end with Matt Smith regenerating into a new Doctor.

He is also working on a Christmas special. There were fears he would decide to leave the show to look for work in Hollywood films.

Head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat joked on microblogging website Twitter: "14 episodes and I've got a plan and I'm not telling you what it is. Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun."
