Deadly black widow spider found on ship coming into UK

Black widow spider

A dangerous spider has been found hidden among a delivery of cars being brought into the UK.

The black widow is one of the deadliest spiders in the world and was found at the docks in Kent.

That kind of creepy-crawlie isn't found anywhere in the UK and it's thought to have come over from America.

After being safely removed by a rather worried dock worker, the little visitor was handed over to a local vet who made sure it was OK.

Black widows have a venom that's 15 times stronger than a rattlesnakes - and a bite from one can kill a person.

The males are completely harmless, but no-one's taking any chances in Kent and the little critter is being kept in two thick boxes.
